A flight to Corfu from Dublin, an internal flight to Athens, a 2 hour ferry ride from Rafina Port and we arrived on Andros, the most northerly of the Cyclade islands in Greece. Sounds laborious, but with just 2 of us travelling and in no hurry it was really enjoyable. And well worth the trek.

A bus journey for €4 took us from the Ferry port to Chora, the capital of Andros. We found The Paraduse Art Hotel through Booking.com, an excellent value, small elegant hotel about a ten minute walk to the Main Street and the beach.

If you picture The Cyclades being full of white and blue buildings, churches, pristine streets and clear blue seas then you won’t be disappointed. There are no less than 4 museums including the maritime and digital museums so plenty of culture if that’s your thing. There are 2 beaches within walking distance, one ‘organised’, , which means you can hire a sun bed and get a drink.

The town is small with plenty of shops restaurants and bars. Still low season in June it’s perfect if you’re after somewhere non touristy but beautiful with lots of amenities.

On day 2 we took a taxi to Gialia beach, an amazing hidden gem. The beach beds are free midweek and in low season and the staff are super friendly. There’s a bar where you can order drinks and snacks but no pressure to buy. With Green seas and white sands it’s very beautiful.

Andros was our first of 3 islands and didn’t disappoint. After 3 days of relaxing, we’re ready to party on Paros.
